Spiritual Care

The Rev. Douglas A. Beck ObJN, Rector is happy to offer a listening ear as needed. Fr. Beck holds clergy-parishioner exchanges in confidence. In addition to his training in pastoral care-giving, Fr. Beck comes to us with clinical experience in spiritual care and is a certified spiritual director. He gladly makes visits to home or hospital to parishioners who are ill or who have other pastoral needs and he is available for home communion.

Fr. Beck is also the first contact at St. Francis by the Sea when planning for Baptism, Confirmation/Reception/Reaffirmation, Marriage or a Burial Service. His office extension is 15 when dialing St. Francis. Or, reach him through his contact information provided in the parish Members & Friends List.

Stephen Ministers (coming in 2026)

Trained lay support is offered through our Stephen Ministers (coming in 2026). Four trained Lay Stephen Ministers who have discerned a call to lay pastoral care giving are available for one-on-one companionship during a time of questioning, challenge, bereavement, or simply going through a hard time.

Licensed Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs)

At the request of the rector, parishioners who have discerned a call to administer the chalice during the administration of the Holy Eucharist, are issued a license to do so by the diocesan bishop. Those licensed to serve sacramental wine have undergone training to do so with the rector, and are up to date on Safe Church certification.

Licensed Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs)

At the request of the rector, at St. Francis, two parishioners who have discerned a call to take home communion to shut-ins are issued a license to do so by the diocesan bishop. Home communion is coordinated through the rector. Those licensed as LEVs have undergone training to do so with the rector, and are up to date on Safe Church certification.

Those desiring support from a Stephen Minister (coming in 2026) or requesting home communion with a LEV, please speak with Fr. beck.
