The Rev. Douglas A. Beck, ObJN

The Rev. Douglas A. Beck, ObJN became the fifth Rector of St. Francis by the Sea on January 1, 2024. We recognize Fr. Beck's (also goes by "Douglas") prayerful, pastorally strong leadership as a good match for us. We experience him as a joyful, energetic, contemplative,  calm, caring, loving, deliberative, prayerful leader who listens with intentional presence. His ministry passions are prayer, liturgy, the arts, pastoral care and faith formation. In our community, he serves on the GSA Refugee Student Committee, the Board of Blue Hill Bach and is piano accompanist for the Bagaduce Chorale.

Fr. Beck serves as co-chair for the Diocese of Maine Clergy Formation Committee and as Clergy Delegate to Diocesan Council. In the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island where he served previously, he mentored newly ordained clergy and served on the Diocesan Discernment and Formation Committee. He has also served as adjunct in areas of Music and Liturgy at Virginia Theological Seminary and Bangor Theological Seminary.

Fr. Beck's Master of Divinity degree was granted from the Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax, with Honors; Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Music are from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. He is a certified Spiritual Director through the Haden Institute.
